About us
We are now trading from our new home and workshop in the delightful surroundings of the Bushey countryside in Hertfordshire. We make about ten new instruments a year as well as carrying out repair work and restoration on fine violins, violas, cellos and basses. Other work includes the making of carbon fibre bows and some violin teaching.
All of our instruments are hand made adhering to the old cremonese principles and working methods and embodying the highest standards of craftsmanship. Each instrument is a unique creation. The tonal quality we seek is of a warm dark colour, rich in harmonics and one that I would associate with old Italian fiddles.
We also make exact copies of old instruments for clients who feel safer having a second instrument.
Introducing our members area
What is in the members area? Many folders containing violin related material. At the moment we are still in the process of populating it with many different files. Our intention is to make our members area a worthwhile place to have and we plan to share some amazing clips of jazz musicians and classical violin performances not often seen. Best of all we will have access to media files in all formats and you can download them to your computer. There will also be a folder containing zip files which are handy for distribution. We can move music files about in this format but we can also use it to store important software for all our needs. You can say what software you would like to have and we will add it here in our members area.
Information, such as written works about the violin and tutorials will be available in pdf. Other plans involve the presentation of video clips and talks on specific restoration projects by Gerard Murphy/atelierviolins. The members area is subscription based.
